Hi all!
I have some issues with Syncthing and WiFi network. I sync my files from MacOS to home server running CentOS 7. Empirically, I found that when Syncthing works - wifi network are very slow.
At the left part of screenshot i ping my router via ssh @ centos server (server connected to router via ethernet) At the right part - ping router from my Macbook…
As you can see, ping are horrible. All devices in my home network, which connected via WiFi, work very slow. So, as i understand, syncthing DDOS my network
If i stop syncthing app on my notebook - WiFi speed rise up and ping are near 1-5 ms.
I have the same issue at work, so there are not a router problem.
Any suggestions ?
Thnx.

When I start syncthing on the Raspberry there is a lot of output to the console. I tried putting it into background with
syncthing &
but this is not working. I did not set up asystemctl service
yet (too complicated, not sure where to put file etc.).Is there a simple way to manually start it in the background? I can not find anything related with
syncthin --help
.EDIT: I just recognised that I still have a process running after shutting down the console output with
CTRL C
. This was the instance I started withsyncthing &
. Does this mean it runs in background and is doing fine and I just canceled the console output? That would be okay. Also, I suspect I can run it on startup in
/etc/rc.local
this way, right? The output will just get lost, but the process will run.

Had some hours with Syncthing on my DS918+ with DSM 6.2…
Actually I want to have a logfile on filesystem, that I can search with one of my scripts.
Does somebody know how to do this on DSM 6.2 with Syncthing v1.3.4?

Im currently using syncthing to share tons of small files to multiple user & multi site.
One of my device have been experiencing crashes nearly a daily basis(office hour only, weekend when the office is empty or when sycnthing is stopped during office hour, it runs fine.).
This device is Orange Pi Zero, 512MB Ram, in the office where 6 staff is located, act as one of the dedicated backup device for the office. it was running fine for a year before this frequent crashes, and ram usage has been steady increasing over time. I also have RPi 2 running offsite, working well so far, running sycnthing for backup, among other things (same as OPi Zero).
total watched folder is 6. Current total file count is near 100,000 files, 20,000 folders ~120 GiB
I’m currently replacing it, but i wish to re-purpose this device as secondary offsite synchting backup.
So, other than either reducing watched folder or upgrading device, any ideas how to reduce ram usage?

Today I update one of my devices to RC v1.4.0-rc.1 and all data are lost. If I can store all settings and import later, no problem, but in such way any update on servers etc. is not possible!
For that device I have to setup all content like for a new installation.

Folders and devices are greyed out and I can’t make any changes to them. In the past after I rebooted and clicked on SyncThing GTK, it sometimes said there was an error and it lost connection with the daemon, then crashed. Also, the web UI rarely loaded up whenever I tried opening it. Usually it would work at first but after I closed the tab and tried opening it again it wouldn’t load.
I tried installing from the repo but nothing changed. Tried reinstalling from the software center again but nothing changed.
I deleted the .syncthing and .syncthingGTK config folders and reinstalled them. Now after I reboot, the folders and devices in Syncthing GTK sometimes light up but I still can’t make any changes to them.
Does anyone have suggestions? I’m running Linux Mint 19.3. Thanks.

Installing syncthing/syncthing:latest in Docker, mounting a local FTP volume as external volume.
It seems Syncthing is trying to chmod the folder, which of course, being an FTP folder, it isn’t allowed to do. The permissions in FTP is such that it will take care of the permission itself.
How can I tell Syncthing to ignore permissions? I saw a suggestion to create an .stignore file in the folder, but that makes no change. Keep in mind that I can’t access the Syncthing GUI until Syncthing is running, and it won’t start as long as it’s not allowed to change ownership of this folder.

Hello,
after trying to get SyncThing and SyncTrayzor to use a Socks5-Proxy for about two days, without any success, I hope someone can help me/point me in the right direction. Somehow I can’t find any tutorial on how to do this. The “Using Proxies” chapter in the Docs doesn’t really help for windows at all. I already tried setting a System-wide Environment Variable and I used the field in SyncTrayzor, without success.
I really hope someone can help with that.
Greetings, Glissa

Hello forum,
Assume a folder is set up on PC “A” as “Send Only”, and on PC “B” as “Send & Receive” with “Simple File Versioning”.
Then on PC “B”, the file “Foo” is changed and the file “Bar” is added. As a result, the red button “Override Local Changes” appears on PC “A”.
If this is clicked on PC “A”, the changes in the file “Foo” on PC “B” are lost and the file “Bar” on PC “B” is deleted – OK.
In this case, will the newer version of the file “Foo” and the file “Bar” be placed in the .stversions folder on PC “B”?
Thanks!

Hi.
I want to synchronize folders between my two PCs Alice and Bob. However, the folder on Alice are not stored on Alice’s internal HDD but on a external USB drive connected to Alice.
I’ve read several reports here and elsewhere, that when disconnecting the USB drive from Alice, the files on Bob get deleted (because Syncthing doesn’t find the .stfolder file on Alice anymore).
However, I could find no good tutorial how I have to set up Syncthing to prevent this behavior.
Maybe one of you has a link to a tutorial or some ideas how I could deal with this problem?
Both Computers running Ubuntu 18.04 with Syncthing 1.3.4. The USB hard drive on Alice is mounted under: /media/user/hddname
Thanks for your help!

It’s annoying to install another app (even if it’s so small) just to scan the ID, I always Copy the ID to Google Keep from my PC and use it on my phone.
There’s a good open source Barcode Reader if you want to use it, I don’t think it’s a necessary feature but it’s great to see it there.

On the recent releases, the GUI now has waiting to scan. What the criteria behind to when it decides to scan or not? All these are receive only, rescan once a day (86400 minutes)
On a St restart some random folders start scanning, most do not. I can’t seem to run a scan on any job or ‘rescan all’. St has been running for 3hours and most have not started…
I have read #5914 which talks about concurrency, but is that limitation hard coded? I would like some flexibility on the number of jobs running. In the example above, all the jobs are spread over 3 drives but only 4 running, with the rest not started, eg…

It would be great to know the remaining disk space for the smallest device in a cluster (ie the one with the least remaining space). That way, I’d have some forewarning about how/when I might need to reorganize my data and devices/clusters as my usage grows.
The optimal UX might be something as basic as a file in the synced directory (maybe even at every folder level as a configurable option?) with a name that changes according to the remaining space. Eg
“2GB-remaining”
Named like that, it would pop to the top of a directory view (in GUI or CLI) sorted by name, or by modified date (but only when relevant), and thus would be brought to my attention, in context, at appropriate times (eg when I’m about to copy in a file).
Inside the file could be a relevant report with (at least) remaining space for all the devices syncing that folder.
Some may be bothered by that UX, so maybe opt-in?
